Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford, Springfield, and Worcester) funded through Title I school improvement funds for a total of $500,000. Each grant, for $50,000 or $100,000 depending on the size of the district, will be used for costs related to professional development, strategic planning, after school programming, literacy planning, and data analysis.
323D/WStrategic Support to Specific Underperforming School Districts: Bridge GrantA grant issued to the Boston Public Schools, Springfield Public Schools, and Worcester Public Schools, funded through Title I school improvement funds for a total of $360,000 on behalf of the districts’ 2014 newly identified Level 4 schools (Boston-Dorchester Academy and Grew Elementary; Springfield-Duggan Middle School, Forest Park Middle School, and Van Sickle Middle School; Worcester- Elm Park Elementary). Boston Public Schools is allocated $104,000; Springfield Public Schools is allocated $200,000; Worcester Public Schools is allocated $56,000. Funds will be used to support the improvement planning and Turnaround Plan development activities and to implement components of the proposed strategies in a school’s turnaround plan during the 2014-2015 school year.
323HStrategic Support to Specific Underperforming School Districts: Partnership between Teach Plus and William J. Dean Technical High School on Building Instructional Leadership and Professional LearningA grant issued to Holyoke Public Schools in the amount of $233,291 to recruit and build instructional leadership and professional learning at William J. Dean Technical High School in an effort to accelerate turnaround efforts and improve student outcomes. Holyoke will partner with Teach Plus to Identify a cohort of high-performing teachers to bring in to the school as teacher leaders, to provide a school-based coach to provide embedded one-to-one coaching of teacher leaders, and to provide coaching and professional development to teachers to improve instructional practice.
323RStrategic Support to Specific Underperforming School Districts: Paul A. Dever and Holland Elementary Receivership SchoolsA grant issued to the Boston Public Schools funded through Title I school improvement funds for a total of $496,050 on behalf of the Paul A. Dever and Holland Elementary Schools. Both schools have been put into receivership status and will work under the auspices of UP Academy and Blueprint School Network respectively: Paul A. Dever School will receive $300,000 to work with its non-profit partner Blueprint Schools Network for the purchase of instructional and non-instructional supplies, including computers and additional technology needed to support curriculum assessments. Funds will also be used for transportation costs to support professional development. Holland Elementary School will receive $196,050 to work with its non-profit partner UP Academy on purchasing interim assessments, providing enrichment activities, and purchasing additional instructional supplies and non-instructional supplies and materials.
