To help detect and monitor aquatic invasive species (AIS), the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) funded the development of 20 species identification cards for marine invaders in the Gulf of Maine, which were created by Salem Sound Coastwatch. Of the 23 species presented on the cards, 16 are already established in the region, and seven are considered potential invaders.
