Facilitating Private Investment in Our Parks’ Future
Each year, more than 33 million people enjoy recreational activities and the natural and cultural resources found within our state parks. From camping, fishing, boating, swimming, biking and hiking, to environmental education and learning opportunities at archeological and historic sites, the Massachusetts state parks system provides something for everyone.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Conservation Trust and Urban Parks Trust Fund provide mechanisms through which park users, businesses, foundations and other interested parties can protect and improve Massachusetts state parks directly. Tax-deductible contributions to the trusts can be earmarked for a favorite park, or for a favorite program. Donations are used to fill the need for special and new initiatives above and beyond the basic maintenance of the DCR’s properties.
There are many environmental initiatives that could benefit from your donation. A few examples:
- Fragile sand dunes at ocean beaches need boardwalks and informational signs to protect them from overuse.
- Many buildings, roads, trails and other improvements in the state parks were constructed decades ago and need repairs.
- Environmental education efforts in state facilities.
- Lawn mowers, tools, vehicles, typewriters, landscaping materials, signs and other equipment are vitally important to careful natural resource stewardship.
Please see the list of Past Projects funded through the trust funds to see the great work that has resulted and for other donation ideas.
A contribution to DCR’s trust funds is a contribution to the health of our forests and diverse wildlife habitats, our recreational opportunities and cultural and historic resources. Not just for now, but for the new millennium.
Please help improve Massachusetts state parks!
