wendell state forest

Visitors are invited to grill or barbecue in various Massachusetts State Parks.  The locations where grilling may take place and information on the types of grilling allowed at each are listed below.  In general:

  • Stationary charcoal grills, where available in state parks, are generally to be used by visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • At some state parks, stationary charcoal grills are located within a Group Day Use area, such as a pavilion.   Group Day Use areas need to be reserved in advance.
  • Only a few state parks allow visitors to bring in charcoal grills; most parks allow users to bring in gas grills.
  • Where charcoal grills are allowed, used charcoal must be fully cooled and disposed of in a fireproof container.
  • No hot grills can be left unattended.
