The Visitor Center is open year-round (reduced winter hours below). Features include park trail maps, orientation, regional tourist information, restrooms and exhibits on natural and cultural stories of the park.

  • Summer hours, NOW OPEN 7 days per week through Columbus Day: 9:00am-4:30pm
  • Winter hours, Open Saturday and Sunday: 9:00am-4:00pm. Closed Monday - Friday

Closed: Thanksgiving and Christmas


Hoosac Tunnel

The Visitor Center is open year-round. Located in a restored railroad freight yard in downtown North Adams. Exhibits focus on the stories of North Adams, the Hoosac Tunnel and local railroading. Visit Western Gateway Heritage State Park for more information.


  • Summer hours, May through October, daily 10:00am-5:00pm.
  • Winter hours, October through May, Thursday through Monday, 10:00am-4:00pm.

Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and holidays from late-October through May.
