State Officials, Local Organizations to Volunteer at Hyde Park’s Doyle Playground

Volunteer Cleanup Day Scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2017

HYDE PARK- The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation, The Mission Continues- a veterans serving organization, and the Fairmount Greenway Task Force today announced a partnership to cleanup Hyde Park’s Doyle Playground site located on River Street, and are inviting the public to participate on Saturday, September30, 2017. Individuals interested in volunteering can register with The Mission Continues by visiting the organization’s website. The cleanup day event will commence at 10:00AM and continue with a lunch break until 2:00PM. Work at the site will include:

  • The removal of invasive species;
  • The cutting of overgrown trees;
  • The removal of pavement, trash, and other debris; and,
  • The prepping of the area for the placement of loam and grass seed, which will be placed following the cleanup event.

Participants can expect some machinery and large equipment at the site, so young children aren’t recommended to participate. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear comfortable, durable clothing and sturdy sneakers or work boots. Additionally, sunscreen and hats are recommended. Street parking is available along River Street and the surrounding roadways, and the site is accessible by public transportation. The cleanup event is rain or shine, unless thunderstorms and lighting are present.
