TheMassWildlife District Offices are your best source for local info on wildlife topics, fish stocking and pheasant stocking locations, wildlife viewing sites, as well as maps for ponds and state wildlife lands. They also provide publications, many of which are free, others are for sale.  Offices are open during business hours Monday through Friday and are staffed by fish and wildlife biologists, a land agent, receptionist, and wildlife technicians. Western District

Directions

From the old DFW building at 400 Hubbard Ave, Pittsfield: From the old District office take a right onto and follow until Hubbard Ave ends, intersecting with Route 9/ Route 8. Turn right onto Route 9 East/ Route 8 South. Continue on Route 9 East/ Route 8 South through the center of Dalton. Stay on Route 8 after split with Route 9 and follow until road bends sharply to the right. At bend, turn left onto Old Windsor Road following the sign for Wahconah High School. The new Western District office is 1/10th mile on the right.

From the MassPike: Take Exit 2 (Lee Exit) and bear right onto Route 20 west. Follow Route 20 west through downtown Lee and continue on Route 20W/Route 7 North/ into Pittsfield. Stay on Route 7 North to downtown Pittsfield and rotary. Follow signs for Route 9 East to Route 8 South through Pittsfield and into Dalton. Continue on Route 9 East/ Route 8 South through the center of Dalton. Stay on Route 8 after split with Route 9 and follow until road bends sharply to the right. At bend turn left onto Old Windsor Road following the sign to Wahconah High School. The new Western District office is 1/10th mile on the right.

From Rte I-91 and Rte 9 West: Take Exit 19 (Rte 9/Northampton) at the end of the exit ramp, continue straight onto Bridge Road until it ends and intersects with Route 9 at Look Park. Turn right onto Route 9 (West) and follow it for approximately 22 miles into Dalton. At the junction of Route 9 and Route 8 take a left onto Route 8 South and follow until road bends sharply to the right. At bend, turn left onto Old Windsor Road following the sign to Wahconah High School. The new Western District office is 1/10th mile on the right.

From the North -- Take Route 8 South into Pittsfield. At the traffic light, turn left onto Route 9 East/ Route 8 South. Continue on Route 9 East/ Route 8 South through the center of Dalton. Stay on Route 8 after split with Route 9 and follow until road bends sharply to the right. At bend, turn left onto Old Windsor Road following the sign to Wahconah High School. The new Western District office is 1/10th mile on the right

Directions from Westfield area (Rte 20 W): Take Route 20 west out of Westfield through the towns of Russell, Huntington, Chester into Becket, approximately 19 miles. Turn right onto Route 8 north. Continue north on Route 8 through Becket, Washington and Hinsdale into Dalton for approximately 18 miles. Route 8 will take a left bend where Old Windsor Road intersects the highway. Turn right onto Old Windsor Road, following the sign to Wahconah High School. The new Western District office is 1/10th mile on the right.

Directions

From the Mass Pike:
Take the Palmer exit and after the toll booths, bear left on Rte 32. Stay on Rte 32 into Ware Center at the junction of Rte 9 and 32. Take Rte 9 west into Belchertown, passing an entrance to Quabbin Reservoir and over the Swift River. A large sign for the Hatchery and District Office is set up at the junction of East St and Rte 9 on your left. Take a left on to East Street, passing the McLaughlin Hatchery on your left after 1/2 mile and continue for another mile to the District office which will be on your left.

From the West on Rte 9:
Take Rte 9 East through Belchertown and the junction of Rte 202. Pass the main Quabbin entrance on your left, go to the bottom of the hill and bear right on to East Street. There is a large sign for both the Hatchery and District office. Pass the McLaughlin Hatchery on your left after 1/2 mile and continue for another mile to the District office which will be on your left.

From the East on Rte 9:

From Rte 290--East or Westbound:
Take the Exit (in Shrewsbury) for Rte 140 North towards W. Boylston. Go straight through the traffic lights at the junction of Rt 70 and 140, staying on Rte 140 North. Pass by Wachusett Reservoir on your right, up a hill and at the top is a sign directing you in to the office driveway on your right. (Temple Street is Rte 140. Distance from Rte 290 to office is 5 miles.)

From Leominster/Fitchburg:
Take Rte I-190 South to Rte 140. Follow directions below.

From the North, Westminster/Gardner:
Take Rte 2 to Rte 140 South, passing under Rte I-190 and into West Boylston center. (Rte 12 and 140 south) At the traffic lights, bear left (south) on Rte 140 and after 2 miles, District sign and driveway will be on your left. (Rte 140 is Temple Street)

From Rte 2 East or Westbound :
Take Exit 38B onto Ayer Road/Rte 110/111 towards Groton/Ayer. Continue to follow Rte. 110/111 to a rotary (traffic circle) and take the 3rd exit onto E. Main St (Rte 111/2A) through downtown Ayer and make a sharp right turn at Rte. 111/2A (Park Street). At the junction of Rte 111/2A (Tiny's Restaurant), go left staying on Rte 2A (Fitchburg Road) for 1/2 mile. The District office is located just beyond the Lorden Oil facility and Oakhurst Avenue on the right. Turn right in the driveway just before the Fisheries and Wildlife sign. The office is in the brown building on the left.

From the Mass Turnpike and southeastern Mass:
Take Route 495N (Exit 10 off the Pike) to Exit 30 onto Rte 110/2A West (towards Ayer) in Littleton. Follow Rte 110/2A to a rotary (traffic circle) and take the 2nd exit onto E. Main St (Rte 111/2A) through downtown Ayer and make a sharp right turn at Rte. 111/2A (Park Street). At the junction of Rte 111/2A (Tiny's Restaurant), go left staying on Rte 2A (Fitchburg Road) for 1/2 mile. From Rte 128/I-95 (North or Southbound):
Take Exit 29 (in Lexington) onto Rte 2W. Follow Rte 2 through Concord, Acton and Littleton. Pass under Rte 495 continuing westbound on Rte 2. Take Exit 38B onto Ayer Road/Rte 111 towards Groton/Ayer. Continue to follow Rte. 110/111 to a rotary (traffic circle) and take the 3rd exit onto E. Main St (Rte 111/2A) through downtown Ayer and make a sharp right turn at Rte. 111/2A (Park Street). From Rte 495 Southbound from Lowell, Haverhill and points north:
From Rte 495S take Exit 30 onto Rte 110/2A W (towards Ayer) in Littleton. Follow into Ayer to a rotary (traffic circle), take the 2nd exit off the traffic circle onto E. Main St (Rte 111/2A) through downtown Ayer and make a sharp right turn at Rte.111/2A (Park Street). At the junction of Rte 111/2A (Tiny's Restaurant), go left staying on Rte 2A (Fitchburg Road) for 1/2 mile. The District office is located just beyond the Lorden Oil facility and Oakhurst Avenue on the right. Turn right in the driveway just before the Fisheries and Wildlife sign. From the Worcester area:
Take Rte 290 (east or westbound) to Rte 190 N to Rte 2E (towards Boston).

From Rte 195-- New Bedford/Fall River Area
Route 195 to Route 25 south. Take Exit 3 (formerly named Exit 2), which is the last exit before the Bourne Bridge. At Buzzards Bay Rotary (with CVS and Gas Station) take first right after the Gas Station onto Head-of-the -Bay Road. Go 1 mile on Head of The Bay Road. Take a right onto Bournedale Road. Drive seven tenths of a mile (0.7 miles) on Bournedale Road (past Grazing Fields Farm). The District Office is on the right (behind a chain link fence and just before crossing over the Highway)

From Rte 495--Taunton Area
Take Route 495 south and continue on to Route 25. Take Exit 3 (formerly named Exit 2), the last exit before the Bourne Bridge. From Rte 3--Boston Area
Take Exit 1A on Route 6 east (This exit is just before the Sagamore Bridge flyover). Follow this road along the mainland side of the Cape Cod Canal for several miles to the Buzzards Bay Rotary. At Buzzards Bay Rotary (with CVS and gas station) take first right after the gas station onto Head-of-the-Bay Road. Go 1 mile on Head-of-the-Bay Road. Take a right onto Bournedale Road.
