The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) recognizes the need for modern, safe and publicly accessible target and shooting ranges and therefore embarked on a project to meet these goals.

Since 2001, MassWildlife, through the Hunter Education Program, has assisted shooting clubs in range development and improvement activities in order to provide public access to range facilities for hunter education and shooting sports purposes. MassWildlife requested that eligible and qualified organizations provide a proposal for the enhancement and/or maintenance of an existing range facility which in turn would could be made available for Hunter Education and Public access.

Each fiscal year, $50,000 in grant monies has been available. MassWildlife has funded several proposals and has reimbursed up to 75% of those project costs approved by the grants awarded. MassWildlife plans to continue this program based on funding availability. Clubs interested in learning more about the program can contact the Hunter Education Office at (508) 389-7820.
