Trout Stocking --Approximately 500,000 hatchery grown brook, brown, rainbow, and tiger trout are stocked in lakes, ponds, rivers and streams across the state, to offer anglers of all ages exciting fishing opportunities that would not otherwise exist.
In spring, trout stocking activity begins sometime in March, depending on ice, snow, vehicle access, and water chemistry conditions. Trout stocking schedules are updated every Friday between March and Memorial Day in May. In the fall, trout stocking takes place during a 2-week period, usually beginning in the last week of September and ending Columbus Day weekend in October. See the trout stocked waters page for a list of Massachusetts waters stocked in the fall. Fall stocking activity is not posted on the trout stocking schedule.
