On February 15, 2012 the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Northern Shrimp Section voted to enact an emergency closure to the northern shrimp fishery.  Effective at 23:59 hours on Friday, February 17, 2012 it shall be unlawful for commercial fishing vessels to take, possess or land northern shrimp in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until the 2012/2013 northern shrimp fishery opens or notice otherwise is given.  Additionally, it shall be unlawful for dealers to purchase northern shrimp once the fishery is closed.
