The Division of Marine Fisheries (MarineFisheries) has projected that 100% of the Commonwealth’s 2013 commercial tautog quota (58,063 lbs.) will be landed by the end of the fishing day on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. In accordance with 322 CMR 6.40(2)(b)(ii), Massachusetts fishermen are prohibited from possessing or landing tautog for commercial purposes from Thursday, September 26, 2013 through Tuesday, April 15, 2014. It is unlawful for dealers to purchase tautog from Massachusetts commercial fishermen when the commercial fishery is closed (322 CMR 7.07(5)(b)).
Commercial fishermen are reminded that monthly trip-level reports are due no later than the 15th of the following month, even if the permit was not fished. Failure to submit these reports in a timely manner for all months of the year may result in the delay of the renewal of your commercial fishing permit and its endorsements in 2014. Paper-based trip level reports should be sent to DMF Statistics Project, 30 Emerson Ave, Gloucester, MA 01930. Blank forms and instructions were mailed out prior to the beginning of the 2013 fishing season, and additional copies can be obtained from the MarineFisheries website at: Trip-Level Reporting.
