Over the last decade or more there has been little progress in improving water quality in the Lower Neponset River in spite of monitoring efforts by many organizations. There has been very limited effort to collaborate and compare the water quality data or make overall recommendations for remediation. For this project, the Neponset River Watershed Association compiled and reviewed existing data from the MA Division of Marine Fisheries, the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority; developed a plan for management, remediation and further study; and cultivated potential partnerships among these organizations to maximize efficiencies in light of increasing funding constraints.
Short-term (1 to 5 years) and long-term (10 to 30 years) recommendations relating to salt marsh, shellfish, anadramous fish, eelgrass and stormwater improvements are included in the final project report: Neponset River Estuary Area of Critical Environmental Concern Water Quality and Restoration Action Plan file size 2MB.
