Step 1: Prequalify

Call and provide:

Proof of damage from the June 1, 2011 tornado: examples include FEMA registration number, insurance binder, building department documentation

Project cost estimate 

Project start and completion date(s) projection 

Proof of low income eligibility (if appropriate); examples include: Section 8 housing; heating fuel assistance, SSI information requested in the application

Documentation to the bank for final loan approval and terms, if appropriate

Step 2: Contact a HERS Rater

(for performance based grants and loans)

Performance based grants (up to $20,000) and loans (up to $100,000) require a HERS rater pdf format of    W Mass. HERS Raters  to visit the property and provide an initial and final report. 

Repair projects (up to $5000) for specific equipment do not require a HERS rating

Step 3: Request Your Rebate

Review a list of approved energy efficiency improvements in the grant application.

Deliver receipt(s) or contract showing installed project costs, dates and specifications to ReBuild Western Massachusetts pdf format of    Commercial Equipment Rebate Application  .

Note: rebates can be made payable directly to contractors

Step 4: Receive Rebate

Usually within 45 business days of request

Visit the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center website for information on the Commonwealth Solar II program and the Natural Disaster Adder
