  • MA Smart Growth/ Smart Energy Toolkit

    The Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit provides local officials and other stakeholders the tools to change local zoning in ways that encourage the siting of renewable energy facilities, conserve land, and enhance stewardship of natural resources. Toolkit modules include narratives, model bylaws, case studies, slideshows and resource links on mill revitalization, smart energy, wind power, environmental equity, smart parking, wastewater alternatives, form-based codes, and fifteen other techniques.
  • Smart Growth / Smart Energy Conferences

    The annual gathering of elected and appointed officials, public agency staff, non-profit agencies, firms and individuals to learn about and discuss a variety of topics related to land use, development, energy, and resource conservation.
  • Commonwealth Capital

    Commonwealth Capital applies to seven EEA grant & loan programs. The policy endorses planning and zoning measures that are consistent with the Commonwealth's Sustainable Development Principles and encourages municipal implementation by using state funding as an incentive.     Low Impact Development is an approach to environmentally friendly land use planning that include landscaping and design techniques that attempt to maintain the natural, pre-developed ability of a site to manage rainfall and recharge groundwater.
  • Coastal Smart Growth

    Coastal Smart Growth Program is in place to catalogue, develop, and distribute planning, technical, regulatory, and outreach tools for real-world growth management that protects coastal resources. It also ensures that other CZM programs promote and support Coastal Smart Growth and the Commonwealth's Sustainable Development Principles.
  • Planning for Revitalizing Urban Rivers & Downtowns

    The UrbanRiver Visions Initiative, funded by EEA in two rounds, developed vision plans and action steps to help downtowns rediscover and reconnect with their rivers.
