Public Market Commission Public Meeting in Boston Tomorrow
The Public Market Commission, tasked with defining the mission of a public market in downtown Boston, will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Boston to hear a presentation of the proposal submitted by the Boston Public Market Association (BPMA) to operate the public market.
The Commission is comprised of nine members with demonstrated interest, experience or expertise in the production and sale of fresh local foods, plants, and seafood; real estate development; and/or community planning. Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott J. Soares will chair the Commission at this meeting.
During the meeting, the Commission will update the public on the process to this point and then hear a presentation by the BPMA, which submitted a response to an RFP issued in December. The Commission will then ask questions before opening the session up to public comment.
The public market will showcase a variety of the region’s finest local produce, dairy, meats, seafood, specialty foods and beverages, flowers and more. The project is expected to create significant construction jobs in the near future and up to 200 permanent jobs when the market opens.
