Application Period Opens for 2015 Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education Awards
BOSTON — January 14, 2015 – The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs today announced it is now accepting nominations for its annual Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education until March 27, 2015.
Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton will present awards this spring to Massachusetts teachers and students involved in school-based programs that promote environmental and energy education.
“I am proud to recognize the teachers and students leading and inspiring their communities as they tackling critical energy and environmental issues,” said Matthew Beaton, Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs. “This program honors the passion, curiosity and hard work of these educators and students as they study clean energy, recycling, conservation, wildlife and many other pressing issues in our world.”
All public and private Massachusetts schools (K-12) that offer energy and environmental education programs are eligible to apply for the Secretary’s Award. In 2014, schools and nonprofit organizations from 22 communities across the state were recognized for their work on issues including recycling, energy conservation, ocean science, wildlife conservation and alternative fuels.
The Secretary’s Advisory Group on Energy and Environmental Education will review applications through mid-April. Qualified entrants are invited to attend a formal award ceremony with Secretary Beaton at the State House later in the spring.
