Media Advisory

WHAT:

Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott J. Soares will join Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone at the Somerville Winter Farmers' Market on Saturday, February 12, to showcase a successful Massachusetts Farmers' Market operating over the winter. The visit will include a tour of the market with the mayor. There are 16 winter markets in operation across the state this year, double last year's total of eight.

"I'm pleased to see these winter markets thriving and am looking forward to celebrating their success in bringing local products to consumers throughout the year," said Commissioner Soares.

"We are proud to offer such a large, inclusive Farmers Market in the winter, thereby continuing to offer easy access to fresh, healthy produce year-round. We look forward to continuing to enhance the market, and adding it to our repertoire of successful summer farmers' markets," said Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone.
