Media Advisory

The Public Market Commission, tasked with defining and stewarding the mission of a public market in downtown Boston, will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, August 31 at 3:30 p.m. in Boston focused on feedback from the fishing community and other interested parties about how a new public market can showcase the Commonwealth's seafood, fishing, and aquaculture industries.

The Commission is comprised of nine members with demonstrated interest, experience or expertise in the production and sale of fresh local foods, plants, and seafood; real estate development; and/or community planning. Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Mary Griffin will chair the subcommittee at this meeting.

During the meeting, fish and seafood subcommittee members will outline the goals and responsibilities of the Commission and listen to views and ideas from the fishing and seafood communities.

The public market will showcase a variety of the region's finest local produce, dairy, meats, seafood, specialty foods and beverages, flowers and more. The project is expected to create significant construction jobs in the near future and up to 200 permanent jobs when the market opens. For more information about the market, visit
