State Environmental Officials to Tour Green Energy Farms
Media Advisory
WHAT: | On Thursday, August 18, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Richard K. Sullivan Jr. will join Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott Soares and other state and federal energy and environment officials to tour several western Massachusetts "green energy" farms. The tour will showcase the current efforts of the local farming community to become more sustainable and environmentally responsible through the implementation of energy efficiency and clean renewable energy projects. With the help of technical assistance and financial incentives provided by DAR, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), the Massachusetts Farm Energy Program (MFEP), and U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development and Natural Resources Conservation Service, these farms are able to reduce their energy needs and carbon footprint - demonstrating how agriculture can integrate green energy technologies into day-to-day operations. |
