Public Market Commission Public Meeting in Boston Monday
The Public Market Commission, tasked with defining the mission of a public market in downtown Boston, will hold a public meeting on Monday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at the State House in Boston to gather feedback from the community about the development of the market.
The Commission is comprised of nine members with demonstrated interest, experience or expertise in the production and sale of fresh local foods, plants, and seafood; real estate development; and/or community planning. Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott J. Soares will chair the Commission at this meeting.
During the meeting, commission members will outline the goals and responsibilities of the Commission and listen to public comment on the challenges and opportunities of a public market in Boston. Possible topics include how the market could complement the Haymarket, food labeling and certification, transportation to and from the market, and educational programming.
The public market will showcase a variety of the region's finest local produce, dairy, meats, seafood, specialty foods and beverages, flowers and more. The project is expected to create significant construction jobs in the near future and up to 200 permanent jobs when the market opens.
