As part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, President Obama and Congress have provided funding to increase state nutrition services. Massachusetts will receive $2.1 million to expand senior congregate and home delivered meals. This federal recovery funding will help provide 300,000 meals for seniors in need. At the same time, Congress has added more money to SNAP - the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. For increasing numbers of seniors worrying about putting food on their tables during the current economic downturn, the additional funding will help ease their burden.
