Choosing a long term care facility is an important decision. Entering a nursing home or rest home is a very stressful experience for the individual and their families. Until the day a loved one is admitted to a nursing home, most of us have spent very little time in one. Admission usually follows a period of hospitalization or many months of being cared for at home by family members. This section provides an overview to the process of seeking appropriate nursing or rest home placement.

Remember, it is important to include the person who needs nursing home care in making decisions whenever possible. Always keep their needs in mind.
