Hospice is a supportive care program that provides palliative care and attends to the emotional and spiritual needs of terminally ill patients and their families at an inpatient facility or at the patient's home. In long term care facilities, an individual whose doctor has certified that the patient has less than six months to live if the disease runs its normal course is eligible for the Medicare hospice benefit. For further information contact the Hospice and Palliative Care Federation of Massachusetts at 781-255-7077. You may also call the Long Term Care Ombudsman in your Local Program Area for information.
