Special Topic:
Climate Change and the Massachusetts Bays Program
At its December 12th 2007 Management Committee meeting, the Massachusetts Bays Program (MBP) began to explore its role in addressing the impacts of climate change, particularly in terms of climate change adaptation. In 2008, MBP will begin the process of updating its Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (last updated in 2003) to reflect the emerging challenges that climate change presents to the Massachusetts Bays. In particular, MBP will look at the needs of its 50 communities and what they will need to begin climate change adaptation planning. Three presentations were given on December 12 to help frame the discussion of climate change and MBP: Introduction to Climate Change -- National, Regional, and State Initiatives{Note: Some slides are from Northeast Climate Impacts Assessment and the Union of Concerned Scientists}
