Metro Boston
The Metro Boston Local
Governance Committee (LGC) is comprised of municipally appointed representatives from the communities of Swampscott, Nahant, Lynn, Saugus, Revere, Winthrop, Chelsea, Everett, Boston, Milton, Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham and Hull. These members work to implement
the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan, the guidance document of the Massachusetts Bays Program. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council
began providing staff and technical support to Metro Boston LGC in March of 1993.
Our LGC did not always consist of these 15 communities, and in fact, we have restructured ourselves to better suit the needs of our fifteen diverse metropolitan communities. Originally, Weymouth, Hingham and Hull were members of the South Shore LGC. However, they determined that the problems and issues facing their communities were more closely aligned with other municipalities that share the Boston Harbor Watershed as a local resource and municipal boundary.
The LGC has divided itself into two independent subgroups. Representatives felt that focusing the groups around commonly shared resources would make the meetings more relevant to representatives' interests and participation would increase. Additionally, the dividing line between our LGC subgroups falls on the boundary between the North Coastal and the Boston Harbor Watersheds.
