Massachusetts Fit WIC encourages you to be active with your children and find time to play every day – indoors and outside! Fit WIC’s goal is to help increase physical activity of preschoolers, a time when dietary and physical activity habits are shaped. The Fit WIC program was originally piloted in Arizona, California, Kentucky, Vermont, and Virginia WIC Programs and focuses on promoting the parent as the child’s most important teacher. Since children are naturally active, if you take them outside they will play. Find a safe place for them and keep an eye on them, or better yet, play with them!
Massachusetts WIC is currently collaborating with Head Start’s I am Moving, I am Learning program to design and offer fun group education opportunities that include parents in being physically active with their children, strengthen the mind-body connection, and promote healthy nutrition choices. Ask your local WIC program about Fit WIC!
