Direct personal involvement between people with and without disabilities can deepen and strengthen community life for everyone. These personal involvement can take different forms, including:
One to one connection. Various programs match people with and without disabilities - people who have shared interests, and whose respective needs and strengths fit well together.
Welcoming. Any citizen can welcome people with disabilities into their community. Contact the Office of Citizen Leadership for suggestions on how to promote a sense of belonging among community members.
Additional volunteer opportunities. Various opportunities exist through our system and with our partners, such as provider agencies, Massachusetts Special Olympics, Best Buddies Massachusetts, and many others. For more information, contact the Department's Office of Citizen Leadership.
