About the program

This coverage type offers benefits to two groups of Medicare beneficiaries.

Service offerings

For Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMBs) and Qualifying Individuals (QIs), covered services include payment of Medicare Part B premiums.

Populations served

You may be able to get MassHealth Buy-In if you:

  • are entitled to hospital benefits under Medicare Part A ; and
  • meet the universal requirements of MassHealth Standard coverage.

Eligibility criteria

For both SLMB and QI, you must give us proof of your income before taxes and other deductions and proof of your assets. Your countable assets must be $6,600 or less for an individual or $9,910 or less for a married couple living together.

For SLMB, you must have a countable income, including the income of the spouse with whom you live, that is greater than 100% of the federal poverty level and less than 120% of the federal poverty level.

For QI, you must have a countable income, including the income of the spouse with whom you live, that is equal to or greater than 120% of the federal poverty level and less than 135% of the federal poverty level.
