Tips on applying for health coverage if you have a disability

To apply for MassHealth, please go to the Apply for Health Coverage page. It is important that you check the “disabled” box within the online application.

If you need help with your application, there are several MassHealth Enrollment Centers that can offer in-person assistance. It is important that you let the assister know that you have a disability.

An application can be taken over the phone by contacting 800-841-2900.

You can call 888-665-9993 if you have any questions about your eligibility.

Communication Options

Any MassHealth Enrollment Center or Customer Service Representative can provide publications in the following formats:

All MassHealth Enrollment Centers are equipped with on-demand Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs). Just ask!

MassHealth Disability Accommodation Ombudsman

If you are a member or applicant who is blind, deaf, hard of hearing, or speech disabled, the Ombudsman can help you communicate. The Ombudsman is also able to assist with other disability related issues that are not resolved through regular MassHealth channels. If you have an urgent medical need, please indicate when leaving a message. You can contact the Ombudsman using any of the following methods:

MassHealth recognizes that we may be contacted by clients/consumers with unique communication needs, and we welcome the opportunity to serve you. If you use a TTY, please call us utilizing the MARelay at 711 to have a Relay Operator voice your TTY call to us, and to type our verbal response back to you.

If you are deaf and prefer to use ASL, please use the Video Relay Service provider of your choice to contact us at 800-841-2900.

Our staff have been trained how to use TRS and VRS and look forward to providing you with barrier-free service.

If you would like to meet with MassHealth staff and require a sign language interpreter or Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) service, the Ombudsman will schedule this for you.
