Who uses HSN-INET?

HSN-INET is available to all entities that file data with the Health Safety Net (HSN). To register for HSN-INET, each individual who will be filing data for an organization must complete a User Agreement Form. The User Agreements identify the organization’s particular employees or agents/contractors and the particular submissions to which each require access.

For providers using a billing intermediary, a Business Partner Security Agreement must be completed.

Do I need any special software programs?

If you are simply filing information that is aggregated to the organizational level (e.g., financial or statistical reports), no additional software is necessary. If you are filing patient-level data, HSN will provide you with a program (Secure Encryption and Decryption Software (SENDS)) that will encrypt and decrypt all files containing patient-level information. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or higher. The Acrobat Reader is available as a free download from the Adobe website. When an individual attempts to link to HSN-INET and they do not have an upgraded browser, they will be prompted to the direct upgrade link.

What happens if I forget my HSN-INET user name and password?

You can receive your user name and default password by calling the HSN Help Desk at 1-800-609-7232 or by e-mailing them at hsnhelpdesk@state.ma.us. Please be prepared to answer security questions associated with your account before a reset is completed.

Is there a charge to use HSN-INET?

No. The use of HSN-INET is free of charge.

What if I need help once I start using HSN-INET?

You can call 1-800-609-7232 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, when you need assistance. You can also send an e-mail to hsnhelpdesk@state.ma.us.

Are there any limitations to when I can enter or send my data via HSN-INET?

The HSN-INET system may be unavailable, due to maintenance, from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM, Monday through Friday.

How long will HSN-INET remain open if I do not hit a key?

There is a 25-minute time-out when on online. If a user does not press a key for 25 minutes, he/she will be logged out and placed back at the sign-on screen. This means that any data being entered online that has not been saved will be LOST. Therefore, it is recommended that users gather all necessary information before logging on, and SAVE information frequently during every session.
