What You Need to Know About One Care. All in One Place.
In October 2013, MassHealth issued a MassHealth All Provider Bulletin for One Care located on the MassHealth 2013 Bulletins web page. The bulletin has additional information about the program, including One Care’s goals, covered services, and provider and plan responsibilities. MassHealth issues provider bulletins as needed to communicate procedures, reminders, and other information to MassHealth providers.
As a health care provider for people with disabilities, you may be getting questions about One Care: MassHealth plus Medicare. One Care is a new care option for adults age 21-64 at the time of enrollment who are eligible for both MassHealth and Medicare benefits. The goal of One Care is to offer a better, simpler way for people with disabilities to get all the care they need in one streamlined, integrated, person-centered plan. MassHealth and Medicare have joined together with health plans in Massachusetts to offer One Care. One Care will cover all the benefits your clients or patients have now, plus expanded care services. MassHealth data from 2012 show that some characteristics of individuals eligible for One Care include the following:
- 98% reside in the community and not in a long-term-care facility;
- 19% use Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS);
- 7% have an intellectual or a developmental disability;
- 56% were given a chronic medical diagnosis;
- 69% were given a behavioral health diagnosis.
One Care plans and providers across the state require specific knowledge in order to fully implement One Care: MassHealth plus Medicare. Trainings are being provided by the UMass Medical School on behalf of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services through live and online trainings.
