Medication Assisted Treatment
Buprenorphine is a recently approved medication for the treatment of some heroin and other opioid drug users that can be administered by physicians in primary-care based settings. It is not intended to replace methadone therapy. Rather, physician-administered opioid treatment with buprenorphine is an alternative treatment option.
