Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Office of Medicaid 600 Washington Street Boston, MA 02111 www.mass.gov/masshealth Eligibility Operations Memo 08-04 March 1, 2008 TO: MassHealth Eligibility Operations Staff FROM: Russ Kulp, Director, MassHealth Operations RE: Change to Automatic MAOA Conversion Process Introduction On November 15, 2007, MassHealth issued Eligibility Operations Memo 07-17, describing changes to the automatic Massachusetts Association of Older Americans (MAOA) process. These changes affected any MassHealth member who was terminated on category 02 (Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children) and converted to category 06 on PACES. EOM 07-17 included a list of action reasons that would no longer convert to a category 06 MAOA case on PACES. Included in the action reason (AR) list was AR 38, voluntary withdrawal. Change to Action Reason List Effective February 29, 2008, MassHealth will convert, through the MAOA process, TAFDC members who terminate cash assistance with AR 38. This is to ensure that members who request voluntary withdrawal from cash assistance do not lose their MassHealth coverage until they are redetermined in accordance with the MAOA process or they request that MassHealth closes their MassHealth benefits.
