The EOHHS Human Service Worker Safety Training is an online course designed to meet the required training elements outlined by the legislation. The training includes the following elements:

  • Definitions of Human Service Worker, Workplace and Workplace Violence
  • Importance of Human Service Worker safety education
  • Risk assessment techniques
  • De-escalation strategies
  • Connections between actions and reactions
  • Pertinent laws and regulations
  • Identification of additional resources on human worker safety

This training is available free of charge.

Steps to Access the Online Training

  1. Go to www.pace.state.ma.us
  2. Enter the Login ID and Password you were given
    1. If you do not yet have a PACE Login ID and Password, go to www.mass.gov/eohhs/gov/commissions-and-initiatives/hsw-safety-regs/registration-form.html and follow the directions to obtain them
    2. If this is your first time on PACE you may have to change your password and fill out some more personal information, proceed as directed
  3. Click the Student Learning Center button on the left-hand side
  4. Click the Course Catalogue Button
  5. In the Keywords: box type “Human Service Worker Safety”
  6. Click the link that is appropriate to your organization
    1. If you are a Commonwealth employee click on the link that reads
      “EHS - Human Service Worker Safety (State Employees Only)”
    2. If you are a Community Based Organization employee click on the link that reads
      “EHS - Human Service Worker Safety (Community Based Organizations Only)”
  7. Click the Take Course button
  8. In the window that pops up click the link that reads “Human Service Worker Safety”
  9. This will allow you to take the training.

After you have finished the training (for employees of Community Based Organizations only):

  1. Click the Personal KC button on the left-hand side
  2. Click the My Portfolio tab
  3. Click the “Transcript” link
  4. Find the row that corresponds to the training you just took
  5. Click the “certificate” link
  6. Print your certificate by clicking the printer icon
  7. Give the certificate to the person designated with tracking training at your organization

As with the eLearning, trainees from Community Based Organizations should submit the certificate of completion to their HR/Training department.
