Individuals and families that adopt through the Department of Children and Families come from all walks of life. You do not have to be married, wealthy, or have a specific education or background. We are interested in individuals and families that have the ability to love and safely care for children of all ages. Our adoption process is intended to help you decided what kind of commitment you can make to a child.
  • You must be a strong communicator, capable of expressing, understanding and accepting your own feelings and the feelings of others.
  • You must be a good problem solver, which often requires you to be a creative thinker.
  • You must be patient, but firm in your interactions with your adopted child.

Your good nature and your love for your adopted child will help you experience the many challenges - and rewards - of parenting.
