Data are a vital component of the work at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH). Access to MDPH's confidential data is widely sought. The Privacy and Data Access Office (PDAO) is responsible for facilitating, coordinating and tracking confidential data access within DPH and from outside the agency, and provides support to all DPH programs for compliance with privacy procedures and laws. The staff of the PDAO ensures appropriate and timely access to confidential data, while protecting information from unauthorized use or disclosure.
Within the PDAO there are two distinct department-wide functions: Privacy and Access to Confidential Data. The PDAO also provides support to the Human Research Review Committee, the DPH Institutional Review Board. It works closely on security related matters with the Department's CIO and the Information Security Officer.
