The Mass in Motion communities Amherst, Belchertown, Northampton and Williamsburg form Healthy Hampshire, a partnership of The Hampshire Council of Governments. Healthy Hampshire develops local policies that bridge the gap between the promotion of wellness as a concept and the on-the-ground reality of providing residents access to resources that encourage exercise and health eating. All four Healthy Hampshire communities are establishing or expanding a Safe Routes to School program, establishing a Healthy Neighborhood Market Committee to help store owners offer healthy food and drink options, and creating a plan to improve school nutrition in order to support the new MA nutrition regulations. In addition, Healthy Hampshire is working to incorporate a healthy development checklist into city plans, which would ensure that city planning take health into account when planning new developments.
