Mass in Motion Melrose/Wakefield aims to provide residents with simple, practical and cost effective ways to eat better and move more at home, work and in the community. The Mass in Motion grant is being used to support these initiatives by coordinating a cross section of local agencies, community groups, local businesses and coalitions to address the issue of obesity in a local comprehensive approach.

Ambitious overall county goals include increasing availability and affordability of healthful foods throughout the communities. This includes foods offered in local restaurants, at public schools, in convenience stores, and at local farmers markets. Melrose and Wakefield are also increasing the total number of physical activity opportunities by creating safer routes for students to walk to school, and creating more opportunities to walk and bike throughout the community.
