Enclosed is the final draft protocol for the re-testing of the Allendale Elementary School by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Center for Environmental Health (MDPH/CEH). This protocol is the result of three meetings and numerous other communications during the period February-May 2006 with members of the MDPH/CEH Technical Work Group that was convened to assist with developing this protocol. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Work Group members for their contributions and their time in developing the protocol. The members of our Work Group include Elaine Krueger and Michael Celona from the MA Department of Public Health's Center for Environmental Health Environmental Toxicology Program (MDPH/CEH/ETP); Anna Symington from the MA Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup; Dr. Phillip Adamo, Chairman of the Pittsfield Board of Health; Dr. David Carpenter from the University of New York at Albany's Institute for Health and the Environment (IHE); Chris Wakefield from Spectrum Analytical, Inc. (SAI); David Camann from Southwest Research Institute (SWRI); Cindy Helitzer, School Nurse, and Geoff Coelho, Science Teacher, from the Allendale Elementary School; Tim Gray from the Housatonic River Initiative; Dr. Donald Roeder from Simon's Rock College of Bard; and David Martindale from the Allendale School Task Force. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) is providing technical assistance to the Work Group. The charge of the workgroup was to develop an indoor environmental sampling and analysis plan for this follow-up effort at the school.

We are asking members of the work group as well as other interested parties to review and provide us with any final comments by close of business Monday, June 5, 2006. We require comments by then because testing must be conducted at least by the end of the week of June 12, 2006, as school ends during the week of June 19. Please forward any comments you may have in writing by mail or e‑mail to:
