Overweight and Obesity

Overweight and obesity for both women and children have reached alarming proportions. Recent data from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) indicated that:

43% of participating women were either overweight (24%) or obese (19%) prior to their current pregnancy. 51% of the participants gained more than the recommended amount of weight during their pregnancy. More than one third of enrolled children aged 2 to 5 were either at risk for overweight or already overweight.
