Effective September 18, 2006, pursuant to Chapter 172 of the Acts of 2006, pharmacists in the Commonwealth may sell hypodermic syringes or needles for the administration of controlled substances by injection to a person 18 years or older who shows proof of identification validating age. The new law requires that an Educational Insert developed by the Department of Public Health (DPH) be provided to a hypodermic syringe or needle purchaser at sale. The Board of Registration in Pharmacy requests assistance in distributing the attached DPH Educational Insert to pharmacy and pharmacist association members, college of pharmacy personnel and other interested parties. The DPH Educational Insert should be reproduced as necessary to be provided with each sale of hypodermic syringe or needle as required by law, effective September 18, 2006.
