Prescription Drug Monitoring (PMP)

The Massachusetts Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) is a secure website that supports safe prescribing and dispensing of opioid medications.

Medical providers who prescribe opioid pain medications are required to enter the name of each patient receiving opioid medications, along with the date and dose. A licensed prescriber or pharmacist may also obtain authorization to view the prescription history of a patient for the past year. The PMP is designed to prevent patients from “doctor shopping” — seeking pain medication which could be addictive.
