The leadership and staff at EOHHS and MassHealth have been working very closely with their colleagues at the Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI). MeHI was established through the enactment of Massachusetts legislation Chapter 305 http://www.malegislature.gov/Laws/SessionLaws/Acts/2008/Chapter305.
MeHI is the state's designated entity responsible for advancing the use and adoption of health-information technology across the Commonwealth (across all payers, providers, and citizens), including the deployment of EHRs in all health care provider settings that are networked through a statewide health information exchange (HIE). The HIT Council was also established by Chapter 305 and serves as the governing board for MeHI. The HIT Council has nine members, including its chair, the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
MeHI has received federal grants through the Regional Extension Center (REC) Program to support Massachusetts providers in their adoption and meaningful use of EHRs. If a provider needs assistance with adoption of a certified EHR system or has questions about EHRs, they can go to the MeHI Web site at http://mehi.masstech.org/ or contact Bethany Gilboard, Director of Health Technologies at MeHI, at 617-371-3999, extension 201.
