For the 2012-2013 influenza season (which includes the fiscal period of September 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013), MassHealth will pay eligible local public health departments (LPHDs) and public school districts (PSDs) that are enrolled in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) Vaccine Program, for administering flu vaccine to MassHealth members of all ages and for purchasing flu vaccine for adult members 19 years of age and older. 

The goal of this initiative is to provide MassHealth members with increased access to the flu vaccine in public health settings by enrolling and paying eligible LPHDs and PSDs for eligible services.

How Cities and Towns Can Participate

LPHDs and PSDs must be enrolled in the MDPH Vaccine Program before they can enroll in the MassHealth Flu Vaccine Program. LPHDs and PSDs that receive state-supplied vaccine from MDPH are already enrolled in the MDPH Vaccine Program. To enroll in the MDPH’s Flu Vaccine Program, call 617-983-6828.

LPHDs and PSDs may apply to the MassHealth Flu Vaccine Program to receive payment for purchasing of the flu vaccine and eligible administration to MassHealth members. LPHDs and PSDs that purchase and administer flu vaccine for MassHealth members who are enrolled in MassHealth managed care organizations (MCOs) should bill the members’ MCOs for eligible services.

MassHealth is e-mailing enrollment packets to LPHDs and PSDs that are enrolled in the MDPH Vaccine Program. To enroll in the MassHealth Flu Vaccine Program, eligible LPHDs and PSDs must complete, sign, and submit all applicable documents in the MassHealth Flu Vaccine Program enrollment packet.
