Hello. I have some important news to share.
Governor Patrick has announced his 2011 budget. While drafting this budget, our Governor faced a three billion dollar deficit in our Commonwealth. Meanwhile, the fiscal crisis continues in our country and here in Massachusetts. The good news is that the Governor's 2011 budget continues to recognize and fund the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, and the Massachusetts Rehab Commission as three distinct commissions. They continue to serve people throughout Massachusetts who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-deafened, and DeafBlind.
The Governor's proposed 2011 Budget requires continued cost savings. This year, MCDHH's budget is 5.3 million dollars. The budget proposed for next fiscal year is 4.8 million dollars. Therefore, MCDHH's budget will be cut by a total of $141,000 dollars.
MCDHH will continue to give priority to serving our consumers and we will continue to review all administrative and programmatic operations to identify areas for collaboration with other state agencies to ensure services are readily available across the Commonwealth.
This winter and spring the Massachusetts budget process will continue to progress. The February 23 rd event at the State House is an opportunity for you to meet with your legislators and discuss your perspective and concerns, as well as ask questions, about services. Join us for this day at the state house. Interpreters and CART will be provided throughout the day the ensure communication access.
As we continue to face the fiscal crisis, I would like to thank you for your ongoing understanding, commitment, and support as we work together to continue to serve people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
