The Department of Public Health is issuing this Advisory in response to concerns raised by vendors and facilities, regarding a nationwide problem for the supply of Morphine Sulfate Oral Concentrate in tamper evident packaging. While the short supply of the product is reported to be temporary, the Department will allow Long Term Care Facilities Narcotic Kits to be stocked with a supply of non-tamper evident Oral Morphine Sulfate Concentrate or Solution to meet the immediate need.

The Department is allowing one analgesic, oral solution or concentrate of a Schedule II product to a maximum of two (2) containers of 15 ml each or the equivalent for a total of 30ml.

The Department will revert back to Tamper Evident Packaging 90 days after the problem of short supply has been alleviated.

For information concerning a Long Term Care Facilities Emergency Kit and morphine sulfate oral concentrate please refer to DPH Circular Letter: DCHQ 06-10-467.
