To become certified, each Applicant must submit an Application for Certification to the Department of Public Health. Not all applicants are awarded certification. For those programs that are, certification lasts for up to two years, at the end of which time each program must submit an Application for Renewal of Certification. The Department of Public Health monitors certified batterer intervention programs by conducting annual site visits at each certified batterer intervention program. The site visits include observation of intervention group sessions, reviews of administrative files, and interviews with key stakeholders in the community.
