2010 Health Care Cost Trends
This section contains the 2010 preliminary reports, public hearing information, witness testimony, and final report with proposed strategies to mitigate health care cost growth.

The preliminary reports contain supporting information and data on the Massachusetts health care delivery system and premium and health spending trends from 2006 through 2008. The preliminary reports served as the basis of information that was explored during the hearings.

The Division held public hearings in a three-day series of hearings in March 2010 at UMass Boston. State officials, health care policy experts, health care delivery system stakeholders, and members of the public attended the hearings. The public hearing notice, full agenda, presentations, and recordings of the hearings are available.

The Division, in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office, identified witnesses that served as a representative sample of providers and payers from across Massachusetts. Testimony from all identified witnesses, as well as mailed correspondence and additional materials submitted from witnesses, including members of the public, are available.

Pursuant to the provisions of M.G.L. c.118G 6 1/2, the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy is required to compile an annual report concerning spending trends and underlying factors, along with any recommendations for strategies to increase the efficiency of the health care system.

The Division of Health Care Finance and Policy proposes both immediate and longer-term strategies to mitigate health care cost growth.
