July 10, 2013: Barre Man Arrested for Arson
State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Barre Fire Chief Joseph A. Rogowski and Barre Police Chief Erik J. Demetropoulos announced the arrest of William Tuttle III, age 53, of 384 Nichols Road, Barre early this morning. He is charged with one count of burning a dwelling. Mr. Tuttle was found near the home and later arrested by Barre Police officers. He was transported to East Brookfield District Court for arraignment today.
The fire in the one-family home owned by Mr. Tuttle’s brother, occurred around midnight last night. Investigators determined the fire started in the basement and was intentionally-set using an ignitable liquid. The estimated loss is $10,000-$15,000.
The fire was jointly investigated by State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and members of the Barre Fire and Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by the Office of Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
