Woman Arrested for Lawrence Arson
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Acting Lawrence Fire Chief John McInnis and Lawrence Police Chief James X. Fitzpatrick announced the arrest last night of Grace Ordonez, 41, for setting the August 25, 2016 fire at 29 Summer Street in Lawrence. The building had been damaged by a previous fire and several homeless people including Ms Ordonez, were using the building. The 4-alarm fire ultimately damaged seven buildings, five significantly, and displaced 52 people. Damages are estimated at over $1M and three firefighters were injured fighting this fire.
Ms. Ordonez is charged with five counts of burning a dwelling. She was booked at the Lawrence Police Department last night and will be arraigned this morning in Lawrence District Court.
The fire was jointly investigated by the Lawrence Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The case will be prosecuted by the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
